What are the requirements for a Rotorcraft Private Pilot Certification?

Age: Minimum of 16 years old for medical examination; at least 17 years old to obtain the certificate.

Language Proficiency: Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.

Medical Examination: A third-class medical certificate is required, conducted by an FAA-designated medical examiner. Individuals with physical disabilities may be eligible, although some operating limitations may apply. The third-class medical certificate is valid for 24 months and serves as your student pilot certificate once signed by you, the medical examiner, and your flight instructor.

What does the curriculum entail?

Total Flight Time: Minimum of 40 hours, including: 30 hours of flight instruction and 10 hours of solo flight time


Cross-Country Flight Training: 3 hours of cross-country flight training in a helicopter and one cross-country flight of at least 100 nautical miles with landings at a minimum of three points.


Practical Test Preparation: 3 hours of flight training within the 60 days preceding the practical test.


Written Test Requirements: Candidates must pass a written test with a score of 70% or better, consisting of 60 multiple-choice questions selected from the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam.
